Blog 6 - Grade 6

Well, I read my friend's blog, and I decided to write one based on what she wrote. It was about elementary days. I'm now in grade 11, so I guess it's about time I wrote something about my childhood.

Grade 6 was by far the best year of my life. I met new friends that year. Before, I was bullied so much by the other "cool" kids, which included my younger sister (she was in their group). I know, I know. Why on earth would your younger sister bully you along with her other friends? The answer: she is Chinese. You never know about those Asians. They're crazy. Anyways, I remember being close with one friend, let's call him DL (yes, my blog friend, it sounds familiar). I used to go to DL's place a lot for lunch, since my own parent's had to work. We went over nearly every day. I made him cry a few hundred times too. He used to be a big cry baby. But in grade 6, I went to his house less. We were still friends though, but we didn't hang out as much.

Then, out of the blue, we suddenly began to meet up with each other more and more. That's when I met JH and Jave. JH used to hang out with my older sister, so that was a bit awkward. The feeling didn't last long though. Soon JH and I became friends. Although, I have to admit I didn't talk to her as much as the others. Jave became one of my closest friends throughout the year. I did remember knowing about her since grade 1, but I never really talked to her. I thought she had a twin, which turned out to be her older sister (she hates when I say this). She used to flip my over her back when I'd put my arm on her shoulder. She would've made a good pro wrestler.

Another childhood friend I met during that year was Yenny. He was a weird fellow, but he was very popular with the girls. I don't know how, but he was. He wore the same sweater for almost the whole year, but they didn't seem to mind. Most of the girls that liked him used to come to me about it. I think that they thought that I would magically hook them up. I didn't of course (I was like 11?) But Yenny didn't seem to like any of them, that or he didn't notice. He was a strange and dense one, that guy. I knew that he liked one of the girls in our 'group' though. In fact, there was drama at the side that he didn't know about. Let's just keep that behind closed doors. Anyways, his crush didn't evolve to anything, from what I remember. I did remember DL having a little crush on me though, but nothing happened with that (it was kind of cute, though). I do remember having a HUGE kid crush on a guy named Mike in my grade 1 class. We used to be close close friends, but then we moved to different cliques. I didn't see him much again, sadly.

We were all so young and naiive back then, now that I think of it. I didn't even know how to use a computer. But now times have changed. We all moved to different junior high schools after that year, so none of us really had the time to visit. I moved to a different community, and made a new group of friends. I ended up hanging and talking less and less to my elementary buddies (Yenny, DL, JH and Jave). By grade 8 to grade 9 I think I lost almost all touch. I heard that they were still hanging out with each other. They invited me a couple of times, but most of the time I declined. I was just way too far away for me to go. After all, I was still in my pre-teen stages. I regret that now, but I can't do much about it.

I came back into contact around grade 10 with Jave. I didn't speak to Yenny much, unfortunately. JH and DL moved to my school later that year. I remember hanging with DL for the first week, but then he ditched our group. He moved onto a different group, kind of fickle. A few months later, he asked one of my friends out using my advice. How ironic. Too bad he got rejected. Actually, that might've been a good thing, because it would've been too awkward having them all lovey dovey. In our elementary years, I hadn't seen that side of him. He changed a lot since I had seen him last in grade 6. That was around 5 years ago now. I didn't talk much to JH during this school year, but I do think of her as an old friend. DL, not so much anymore. I don't even say 'hi' to him in the halls. It's just far too awkward. Our cliques don't click. His friend doesn't like my friend, so we try to avoid one another if possible. That's kind of sad, I have to admit, since we used to be close friends. I guess life moves on.

Jave and I started talking a lot during this time. We spoke and texted each other almost everyday. We still do, in fact. We're close friends. I don't know what I'd do without the kid. Since I started talking to her, I had more contact with Yenny. We talk often now, almost daily. I don't text much, because I'm lazy now a days, but during school is a different matter (I know, I know, horrible kid). But I feel pretty blessed having friends I'm comfortable with, and ones that I've had since forever.

I found out a few new things about myself during the 4 years we were apart. I've only told Yenny and Jave about it, and I'm lucky they accept me for me. I've learned new things about them too, for example, Jave's failed love life (HAHA I'm only joking Jave, I love you I swear), and Yenny's strange obsessions with odd family dramas. But Jave does make the best cookies. I consider them two part of the few close friends I have now. Even though we're still far away (travel wise), we still keep in touch. In the odd times that we meet, it isn't awkward at all, which is cool.

I've now lost contact with almost all of my close junior high friends, but that's alright. Friendships that manage to come back after fading, I think, are the ones that last the longest.

Edit: Yenny makes good cookies too

Blog 5 - Camping

So. It was sunny. We went camping in Waterton two days ago.

The ride there was pretty horrible. I couldn’t sleep at all, because my parents and granny were arguing like mad cows again. When Chinese people speak, we must scream our asses off. It is tradition. So I ended up nearly dying for the whole car ride (I didn’t sleep for the whole day, because stupid me decided to pull and all nighter). Well, I did think that I could’ve slept in the car. But that’s only because I forgot that we were Asian. When we got there, we tried to set up the tents. There were nine of us. Our aunt brought a tent, but she forgot the actually pole things to stick it up, so it was useless. We did have another tent though, but that has some broken pieces to it. We managed to get it up, though it was really unstable. The tent was only made for 3 people, so we had to figure things out. Being the smart ass I am, I told them that all the kids (everyone under 18) should sleep in the tent. The adults agreed, thinking that there were 5 kids, when in fact legally, there were 3. That included my younger sister, my cousin and I. My older sister and her boyfriend had to sleep in the backseat of the car (I don’t know how both of them fit). But they are super skinny, like all Chinese people are supposed to be (haha!). Anyways, the adults tied one corner of the useless tent up in a tree, and they slept in that tent. I don’t know how that worked because it was basically some flat fabric on the floor with one of the corners tied up somewhere. But they managed to.

The only tent we had:

The green thing beside the guy walking is supposed to be the other tent.

Here's my dad trying to act cool by chopping wood:

We went to the park (cousin, sister and I), and my sister jumped off the swing and fell on the ground. I laughed. A couple of other toddlers arrived and they were swinging beside me. i was about to jump off my swing when a kid ran in front of me, and I almost kicked her face in. Thank god for my quick Chinese Kung Fu abilities. I managed to lift up my legs, and squealed like a pig. I missed her by 2 inches. Good thing, because I didn't want to get sued.

This is a picture of my sister, swinging into the beautiful night air like a dumb fool:

Then we went to the lake, by the town. It was pretty nice, but windy as hell. And, I can't jump even if my life depended on it.

Then we went back to the campsite, had food, and went to bed. We had a super high air mattress in our tent, and when one person moved, it was like a wave. The whole mattress moved. They were all sleeping soundly, when at 4 am I decided I needed to go to the bathroom, so I sat up and the bed moved, bouncing them around, and I woke them up. Then I headed to the bathroom. It was actually a nice day. When I got back, I woke them again, by jumping on the bed, and making them bounce up. I was also whispering to them because I couldn’t find the flashlight, even though they told me where is was five times. The next morning we packed up all of our stuff. Then we went to town, walked around, and went horseback riding.

My horse was very uncooperative and kept eating grass. Same with the five people in front of me. So, every time our horses stopped, we had to gallop to catch up with the leader again. My butt turned to mash potato that day. Also, my dad backed up his horse, while my horse was galloping, and my leg bashed into his horses’ butt. Poor, poor horse. My Chinese knee is as hard as stone. We rode on the horses for an hour. It was bad for my aunt because apparently my horse kept letting out gas, and she was right behind me. It wasn’t as bad as seeing my mom’s horse excreting waste every 5 minutes, but I did enjoy the ride.

We went back to town, but it started to rain, and so we left for home. We stopped at a dodgy looking gas station, and bought some beef jerky as well as 2 cans of energy drinks. Turns out that the energy drinks were over 6 months old. Luckily, my aunt didn’t die from drinking it. At least the cashier in the gas station was cool. He had a silver tooth. During the car ride back, I was unable to sleep again because of the wrath of Chinese voices. I was sad to go home, but there was nothing I could do about it. At least I have my mash potato-feeling butt as a souvenir.

Almost forgot. Have a deer:
